So today I attended my first potions lesson of year 2. I was very excited to meet the next professor. I had already heard from some year 1 students that had already met her, that her lesson were really interesting and fun. At the start of the lesson we were encouraged to look at a folder that reviewed her new year 1 syllabus. This was a great thing for her to do and I found the folder really useful. I hope that reading it has prepared me for this years work.
After this brief introduction, we got stuck into the lesson. For the first half of the year we are going to look at the magical laws and ethics of potions. For this specific lesson though we looked at the ethics surrounding the administration of potions.
The part of this lesson that stood out the most for me, was how important it is to ensure that the person taking a potion fully understands the complications that may occur from taking it. Written consent is obviously ideal but sometimes that cannot be given. As a potioneers however it is important to find some way of ensuring the person or creature definitely wants the potion you are giving them.
